The Marsh Award for Traditional Building Skills 2010

Previous winners of this award are the late Professor John Ashurst (2006); Ray Stevens, The National Trust (2007); Bob Turner, Fisher Decoration Limited (2008); Rebecca Little and Alison Davie (2009).

The winners in the category for a built heritage sector trainer were George Terry, Highbury College, Portsmouth (2008) and Kevin Lambert (2009).

For 2010, both categories are again available and we seek submissions for:

 One award celebrating the achievements of an individual craftsperson who demonstrates the highest possible practical skills and standards in any traditional building craft skill occupation

 One award for an individual trainer, who has demonstrated outstanding work within the built heritage sector in passing on knowledge and understanding to help develop other peoples’ traditional building craft skills.

1. Criteria for the Award
Eligibility: The two awards are open to craftspeople and trainers working in any of the four UK home countries.

Craftsperson
Submission of a CV and photographic evidence of 3-4 pieces of work over the past 2-3 years on specific heritage or conservation related projects that are highly skilled, challenging, unique or acknowledged as being above the normal standard of a contract.  A letter containing a brief statement of support from an employer, client, architect, or building surveyor citing the person’s abilities is also required

Trainer
Submission of evidence of consistently high quality delivery of training in the built heritage skills or conservation field which ahs assisted in developing the skills and abilities of craftspeople. This can be while working for either a training provider or within the workplace and a brief statement of support is required from the Head of the training provider or employer.

2. Award Panel
The awards are assessed by a small judging panel comprising:

3. Presentation of the Awards
The award will be presented at a venue and date to be announced as soon as possible after the judging.
