Glazier
Glaziers working on historic buildings can be involved in the conservation, repair and maintenance of plain glass. This may involve in-situ repairs or removal of glass panels or windows and any lead cames and metal supports and then following repair and cleaning the original glass is re-instated perhaps with new lead.
Often the design, manufacture and installation of new glazed panels will form part of the job role
Painted and kiln fired glass is known as stained glass, the maintenance and conservation of which should be carried out by accredited conservators. The Institute of Conservation (ICON) is the professional body representing stained glass conservators and has an accreditation process and register, visit www.icon.org.uk
