Heritage Apprenticeship Pilot

blind arcadeA pilot Heritage Apprenticeship programme, led by ConstructionSkills, commenced in 2007 to address the specific needs of specialist occupations in the built heritage sector by providing a bespoke programme to help apprentices successfully achieve an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship that reflects their level of skill.

 

Proposed Subject Areas

  • Structural Carpentry

Proposed Programme

Years 1-2: Working within a normal FE college programme on block release gaining specific sectoral underpinning knowledge and key skills to achieve a Construction Diploma in their chosen occupation, which may typically take 12-18 months to complete.

Years 2-3: Working within their company on an agreed training programme with a mentor, with additional support where needed from the college or a specialist training provider, to achieve an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship and Heritage Skills NVQ Level 3.

ConstructionSkills' National Specialist Team is piloting the programme as a Specialist Apprenticeship, commencing with twelve candidates registered in 2008. Company training scheme documentation is being developed by industry experts in consultation with trade associations.
