NHTG Initiatives

The NHTG has a UK-wide remit to provide assistance with all aspects of recruiting, training, and qualifying the built heritage sector workforce of the construction industry to meet current and future demand. The work of the NHTG and its partners is divided into a number of inter-related themes.

Skills Needs Analysis Research

NHTG Skills Research England 2008Starting in 2005 the NHTG has commissioned a series of research reports to provide a comprehensive skills audit of the built heritage sector across the whole of the UK.

Regional Networks

NHTA LeafletRegional Heritage Skills Action Groups are supported in the nine English regions to provide solutions to regional needs. NHTG provides the network with pages on the national website.

Training Support & Workforce Development

Training The TrainersNHTG is supporting skills development within the UK built heritage training infrastructure through initiatives such as the Training the Trainers programme and the Heritage Apprenticeship, to support uptake of the new Heritage Skills NVQ Level 3.

Procurement

leadworker1-150x100.jpgNHTG partners English Heritage and ConstructionSkills are developing a Works and Training Contract to include training as part of the procurement process for built heritage sector work. NHTG is also developing an Accredited Historic Building Contractors Register with industry partners.
