NHTG Mentoring
The NHTG Mentoring Scheme is being developed and delivered in partnership with the Guilds, Livery Companies and Trade Federations as part of the NHTG remit to facilitate skills development and career progression for craftspeople working in the UK-wide Built Heritage Sector.
The scheme is currently being piloted and will identify experienced and trusted practitioners to act as Mentors to pass on their knowledge and skills to develop the abilities of less experienced craftspeople (Learner), working primarily within the workplace.
Supporting a trainee or less experienced craftsperson to further develop their craft skills abilities requires the informed guidance of a mentor with a high level of practical skill and underpinning knowledge and experience. Less experienced, but skilled craftspeople can be trained and mentored to become a master craftsperson by a mentor.
The purpose of the Mentoring scheme is to provide an environment whereby craftspeople can develop their skills, knowledge and understanding by interaction with mentors. The benefits from this exchange of information and experience will assist the learners to develop their craft skill with the ambition of eventually reaching a status similar to that of their mentor.
