National Heritage Training Academy
The National Heritage Training Academy is a coordinated network of training providers and projects combining work-based learning opportunities with fixed centres of training delivery. It uses existing skills and infrastructure to provide flexible training delivery and career progression by bringing together a range of training partners.
The model is designed to service regional or sub-regional needs by operating within a satellite structure from a central hub. To augment the development of the existing training infrastructure, Heritage Skills Academies support the delivery of on-site training and the establishment of Heritage Skills Centres for traditional building skills.
The hub will excel in providing dedicated blended learning and training within a historic setting, as well as providing a public front-end to the Academy. It will also take a lead role in promoting skills, training and careers for the traditional buildings sector across the region.
There are currently two operational Heritage Academies in England:
NHTA (South West) has brought together a wide range of partners and training providers across the South West region and developed the structure for this group to flourish and deliver heritage education and skills training initiatives for the whole South West region.
NHTA (Yorkshire and the Humber) was launched in September 2008 to improve the regional heritage skills training offer by bringing together training providers across the regions including Craven College, York College and York University.
