NHTG Careers Brochure

Careers CoverRe-launched under the NHTG branding in January 2007, this recruitment publication provides careers advice and guidance for craftspeople and for the first time incorporates a link to careers as professionals within the built heritage sector, such as architects, surveyors and conservation officers.

It includes a career paths flowchart which shows career progression within the sector from starting on the tools or in higher education through to company director or employment with the major heritage bodies.

The skills required for each of the eight principal crafts - from stonemasonry to steeplejacks - are described in detail, with pointers on how to get started in a career in the sector and the full range of available relevant qualifications.

Case studies of young craftspeople and professionals in the sector also provide a valuable insight into some of the amazing projects within this important sector of the construction industry.

In April 2007 the NHTG Careers Brochure was distributed to over 5000 careers advisors in UK secondary schools as part of the ConstructionSkills’ ‘Make Your Mark’ construction careers pack aimed at GCSE and A-Level students. Research shows that this is a key decision making time for young people and we hope that it will help to inspire a whole new generation of young craftspeople and historic building professionals.
