Centre for Education and Sustainable Development
03 November 2008, Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service in partnership with the National Stone Centre is proposing to build a new centre in which to promote Education for Sustainable Development.
The new centre will be at the heart of the Council's drive to combat climate change. It wilI provide a base for the development of the College of the Peak programme and be the county hub for courses on heritage and sustainable building skills, rural crafts, the arts and environment and energy saving/ renewable energy.
In order to lead by example the centre will be designed, constructed and run to ensure it has a minimal carbon footprint thus ensuring that the building becomes a learning resource in its own right.
As a very visible showcase of best practice in sustainable design and construction it is intended that it will motivate users to put their new skills and learning into practice.
Construction will commence in spring 2009 and the building will be completed in January 2010.
