North East Heritage Skills Fair 2008

14 July 2008, With over 70 demonstrators and exhibitors, 15 school groups and around 4,000 visitors, the 2008 North East Heritage Skills Fair, which took place at the National Trust’s Gibside Estate on 11th, 12th and 13th July, was a huge success. Fortunately the rain and the mud didn’t dampen the spirits of visitors, and people of all ages could be seen trying their hand at a wide range of traditional crafts. Whether blacksmithing, stone cutting or proggy mat making, visitors rolled up their sleeves and gave heritage skills a go.

Skills Fair 2008

A huge thank you to everyone who took part – demonstrators and exhibitors, National Trust and NECT staff, John Grundy (who opened the event) and all of those who came along to support us.  It was a very special event, and judging by the feedback many people can’t wait for us to do it again!
