North East Heritage Skills Symposium 2008

17 June 2008, The second annual Heritage Skills Symposium was held on 17th June at Bede’s World in Jarrow.

The second annual Heritage Skills Symposium was held on 17th June at Bede’s World in Jarrow.

Over 30 people attended and were introduced to the new National Heritage Training Group’s reports and the pilot year report for the Heritage Skills Initiative which highlighted the need for increased numbers of professionals and crafts people in the heritage sector, whilst quantifying that need and suggesting a plan of action.

The day was structured around working groups identifying regional issues and suggesting plans of action and ways in which all could become more involved in the process of moving forward.

The four main themes were around demand, skills supply, materials supply and training provision.

This material will build a vision for the Heritage Skills Initiative (HSI) and will be published shortly on www.nect.org.uk.
