Scottish Traditional Building Skills Audit

Aim

The overall aim of the STBSA is to develop a work programme for the development of new qualifications for traditional building skills to supplement the existing Scottish Vocational Qualifications provision. These new qualifications will be developed as bolt-on units to existing relevant trades and crafts already delivered.

Objectives

The following objectives have been identified:

• Identify what additional National Occupational Standards (NOS’s) are required, and which NOS’s need to be revised in order to address the needs of traditionally constructed buildings. 

• Assess what level of additional training is required for each traditional building craft skill (i.e. whether a new National Progression Award or additional units to supplement existing qualifications is more appropriate) in the SCQF framework. 

• Prioritise qualification development activity against need.
