NHTA Yorkshire and the Humber Appoints New Coordinator

30 July 2009, The National Heritage Training Academy (Yorkshire and the Humber) has brought together a range of partners to support and promote training and education for the built heritage sector across the whole region.

It is a coordinated network of training providers and projects combining work-based learning opportunities with fixed centres of training delivery, supporting craftspeople and professionals alike.

Sophie Norton has been appointed as the NHTA’s new regional coordinator, with a remit to support the NHTA in achieving a fully qualified workforce for the built heritage sector in the region. With her experience as a local authority conservation officer, Sophie is well-placed to ensure that the NHTA delivers heritage skills training of the highest standard.

Training based on the regions distinct vernacular buildings will be pitched at a variety of audiences, including craftspeople, homeowners and professionals, as this will increase understanding and awareness at every level. Sophie will liaise closely with training providers and their target audiences to make sure that all training associated with the NHTA is complementary.

Until taking up the post Sophie was working with the North West Heritage Skills Hub as an active member of the Steering Group, so she brings a wealth of relevant experience to the role and is keen that the two neighbouring initiatives complement each other.

Sophie will be based at York University, which co-funds the NHTA Yorkshire and the Humber initiative with English Heritage and the Hamlyn Feilden Fellowship.
