National Heritage Training Academy (Yorkshire and the Humber)

Merchant Adventurers' Hall, YorkOur mission is to provide a sustainable regional network that ensures the continued supply of training and skills development to address the current and future needs of the built heritage sector workforce in  Yorkshire and The Humber.

Our Aims and Goals

The National Heritage Training Academy (Yorkshire and The Humber) is a new initiative that has brought together a range of partners to support and promote training and education for the built heritage sector across the whole region.

It is a coordinated network of training providers and projects combining work-based learning opportunities with fixed centres of training delivery.

The NHTA (Y&H) will:
• meet current and future demand for traditional building skills training and education in Yorkshire and The Humber
• address training needs for specialist and threatened craft skills occupations
• provide ‘live’ site-based experience within a historic environment
• spearhead the region’s response to the drive for a fully qualified workforce for the built heritage sector
• facilitate closer working between craftspeople, professionals and manufacturers/suppliers.

Get Involved

The NHTA (Y&H) exists to work with all those interested in addressing the region’s skills gaps and shortages in the built heritage sector on an inclusive basis across the whole region.
It has been established by a core founding partnership:
• Yorkshire and The Humber Heritage Skills Initiative
• National Heritage Training Group (NHTG)
• English Heritage
• ConstructionSkills
• Learning and Skills Council
• York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship
• Craven College
• York College
• The University of York.

Expansion of the network will include:
• further education colleges
• universities
• private training providers
• stockholders of historic properties
• employers, craftspeople, specialists and suppliers
• industry professionals
